We set out to explore the evolution of color in Odonata, which may have been the first multi-colored insect. We first sampled various methods for measuring color across the group and compared and contrasted the different techniques in order to evaluate their respective strengths and weaknesses. Once the merits and deficits of each were understood, we extended our color measurements across Odonata to look at the evolution of color and its potential role in species diversity.
