15: Technologies and methodologies used in rearing, maintenance, Bt resistance selection, and bioassay of the sugarcane borer, fall armyworm, and corn earworm at LSU AgCenter
Since 2004, the Corn and Small Grain Insect Research Laboratory at LSU AgCenter has conducted laboratory assays, greenhouse tests, and open field trials to evaluate the performance of transgenic Bt corn traits, assess Bt resistance risk, and generate necessary data to improve resistance management programs. During this period of time, we have developed a set of successful insect rearing and maintenance methods that have greatly facilitated our research. This presentation will outline some of the technologies and methodologies used in our lab in insect rearing and maintenance, Bt resistance selection, bioassay, F2/F1 screen with three above-ground lepidopteran pests targeted by Bt corn in the southern region of the United States: sugarcane borer, fall armyworm, and corn earworm.
