Food production in urban systems comes in all shapes and sizes, from patio planters to community gardens and indoor vertical hydroponic operations. Each of these systems has unique challenges and resources available, and often operate with a diverse set of goals. The objective of this symposium is to review the work of entomologists in urban agriculture. This introductory talk will identify some of the unique challenges and opportunities for entomological research and extension. The following presentations will provide examples of these various efforts across diverse communities in the United States.
