We are experiencing a science education crisis in the United States. The CORONA Virus crisis is a clear indication of the publics' lack of science knowledge. This session will not look at Corona Virus but will discuss the need and suggestions for using insects to jumpstart a science literacy program. Evaluating data and decision making are central tenants of all science. Arthropods are the only animals allowed in science fairs and there is a very long list of curriculum elements across all subjects where they would prove motivational as examples. It is easy to engage students with live insects or even short videos of insects paired with important science concepts.
