The recent national legalization of Cannabissativa for medical, hemp, and recreational purposes in Canada has created a rapidly expanding sector throughout the country. This novel sector poses many challenges to small- and large-scale producers. Impacts of insect pests can be substantial and are often difficult to manage due in part to a lack of fundamental science on insect-Cannabis interactions. Further complicating Cannabis pest management this issue is a tight regulatory environment that limits the tools and support available to licensed producers. This presentation will discuss key challenges created by the Canadian Cannabis regulatory environment and some potential approaches to overcoming them.
