Insect life is inextricably linked to the soil. Soils provide resources and refuge for arthropods across ecosystems, and arthropod activity and biodiversity can influence soil properties and biogeochemical processes. Here we explore the myriad of ways insects shape and are likewise shaped by the “black box” of soil ecosystems.
