In this talk I review what is known about the origin and dispersal of German cockroaches as well as some of the insights genetic studies have contributed to our understanding of its population biology. To augment our understanding of B. germanica populations, I also compare and contrast our knowledge of German cockroach population genetics to that of the common bed bug, Cimex lectularius.
