4: Factors impacting the management of fungus gnats in gourmet mushroom production

Fungus gnats (Diptera: Sciaridae) are a major pest of gourmet mushroom production in Ohio. Larval feeding damage coupled with the adult fly's ability to vector numerous diseases incur significant yield losses. Major factors identified for fungus gnat management were used to determine necessary research directions. This includes development of a colony, phenology of fungus gnat outbreaks, and identifying management efficacies. It is critical to understand what options are available to develop an effective management program for this pest in gourmet mushrooms.
