A frank perspective of what it’s like to be a public school science teacher amidst the pressure of standardized testing, the expectation of personalized content for each student and managing a classroom of unique individuals. Working together with entomologists, exposure to insects can be increased and the content can be seamlessly included in the teacher’s lesson plans. Despite insect’s biological importance, they do not serve as model organisms in many high school biology curricula and there is a lack of entomology-focused educational material for these classrooms. Teachers need entomologists to help them successfully get insects in their classroom which will increase the understanding and appreciation of insects.
