Some of the most cutting-edge, widely used, and accepted acarological knowledge and techniques have been developed by women researchers and staff throughout history. From Dr. Claire Athias-Henriot to current researchers developing new imaging techniques, species concepts, and ecological knowledge, the contributions of women researchers have advanced the field of acarology to what it is today. Here, a brief survey of the history and scientific work of women researchers in acarology is presented. This presentation is intended as the introduction to the Mite-y Women symposium.
