Like many biology and entomology professors, I was asked to move my course to a remote (and almost entirely online) format for the Fall 2020 semester. In this presentation, I'll show how I've tried to move beyond standard "voice over powerpoint" recordings to make presentations that are hopefully a little more engaging. I will briefly cover some videos I've produced for both General Biology and General Entomology, which include "demo" style videos on pinning and point-mounting, "drawn and animated" style lectures utilizing comic-book methods, live walkthroughs of dichotemous keys to family, and annotated anatomy lessons with real specimens. I will also showcase some general practices I have developed for teaching a taxonomic entomology course remotely, including the incorporation of collection-focused homework activities and USB digital microscopes for family level identification by students.
