During our surveys for a study comparing invertebrate assemblages across land use types in Prince George, British Columbia, we encountered what seemed to be substantial diversity among Megaselia spp. (Diptera: Phoridae) flies and Platygastridae (Hymenoptera) parasitoid wasps. We successfully sequenced the CO1 barcode region for 228 Megaselia spp. specimens and 32 Platygastridae specimens which revealed 37 and 17 operational taxonomic units, respectively. Our work indicates substantial diversity of these two taxonomic groups in this urban environment and suggests a prominent role for each in ecosystem functioning.
