Sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari, is a serious pest of grain sorghum in the southern U.S. In-furrow, side-dress and foliar application methods of flupyradifrone (Sivanto prime or Sivanto HL) were evaluated for efficacy of control of sugarcane aphid in grain sorghum. In-furrow applications were effective at providing season-long control and compared favorable to the current standard of a foliar application applied when aphids reach an economic threshold of 50 aphids per leaf. A side-dress application also was effective in most but not all trials. The in-furrow application provides a useful alternative control method for sugarcane aphid on grain sorghum.
