The National Ecological Observatory Network has been collecting host seeking mosquitoes across the United States and Puerto Rico since 2014. Using 46 sites, we have analyzed NEON mosquito data to examine continent-wide patterns of mosquito species diversity and phenology. We assessed several pertinent questions, including: Does habitat or geography explain similarity in host-seeking mosquito assemblage? Does habitat diversity affect NEON site level species diversity? How does latitude affect phenology for the same species across large areas? We found that biogeography drives species assemblage similarity, habitat diversity has a small effect on species diversity, and phenology is highly variable, but with a clear latitudinal signal.
